Dimension the keyway
State the keyway width, depth, length and orientation in relation to the shaft features. Include the mating key and drive connection details, with the required fits. A shaft diameter by itself does not define the keyed connection.
Identify the upper shaft interfaces
Show the drive end, bearing and seal contact areas, shoulders and disc connection where applicable. Mark the part number and drawing revision so the upper pivot shaft is not confused with a lower shaft from the same valve assembly.
Confirm material and surface condition
The original reference names SS431 and lists other material options. Specify the required grade, heat treatment and finish for review. Confirm dimensional units and acceptance limits for your part rather than copying general values into the order.
Choose a keyed or splined connection
Use the valve stem drawing checklist to organize your inquiry. If the drive connection uses splines, compare the splined upper shaft for butterfly valve and supply its mating profile.
