Confirm the drawing and material
Identify the part number, drawing revision, order quantity and specified material grade before inspection begins. Match the documents to the supplied batch and agree what material evidence is required. Appearance alone cannot distinguish similar stainless steel grades. For a stainless steel gate valve stem, confirm the selected grade and treatment in the order rather than relying on a general product description.
Check threads and mating dimensions
List overall length, stepped diameters, thread form and pitch, thread direction, threaded length and end-connection geometry. Mark the dimensions that control fit with the stem nut, gate and other mating parts. State the units, datums and tolerances on the drawing. Agree the inspection method and any required gauges for the thread; a photograph or nominal valve size is not enough to establish a fit. Record measured results against the relevant drawing dimensions.
Review surfaces and acceptance evidence
Define the finish required on sealing, bearing and threaded surfaces, and check for burrs or damage that could interfere with assembly. If hardness, coating thickness, straightness or other checks are needed, specify their locations, limits and reporting requirements in advance. Agree which checks apply to samples and which apply to the production batch. Stem inspection does not by itself establish the pressure rating, leak tightness or operating performance of the complete valve assembly.
Close the inspection before dispatch
Use one agreed checklist to record the part reference, drawing revision, batch quantity, inspection results and any accepted deviations. Request the applicable material and dimensional documents before dispatch. If a sample exposes a mating problem, resolve the drawing or process question before approving the production batch. For a new order, the custom valve stem drawing checklist helps organize geometry, material and quantity information for the initial inquiry.
